Esoteric Dance Project, established in 2010, is dedicated to the development of the artist, both performer and choreographer, by providing technique-based education in a nurturing environment while offering a platform for exploration of new creativity that cultivates a profound relationship between choreographer, emerging artist, and the audience. EDP’s Choreographer Mentoring Program strives to support emerging choreographers and allow them the platform to produce a work of art within a personalized mentoring experience on Esoteric Dance Project presented during its 2020 season.
This program includes access to professional dancers and rehearsal space as well as guidance in contract negotiations, costume development, lighting design, press release writing, and other fundamental tools for freelance choreographers. Throughout the process, bi-weekly meetings are held with both Artistic Directors to discuss and guide the mentee with their process. The goal is to help the mentee hone their choreographic vision, gaining new tools to create, and have a safe support system allowing an easy transition into putting on a production.
Choreographic compensation is provided to the selected individual. The collaboration process begins in Mid April with the performance October 20th through 25th (No rehearsals during the month of July). Must be in residence in Chicago area with availability Monday or Wednesday morning to early afternoon. Program guarantees 2 hours of rehearsal/week with up to 45 hours of rehearsal time.
